The two entities collaborate in the conservation of the Tramusser Ra vine in order to revitalize the natural space and preserve its biodiversity.
Roquette’s site in Benifaió and the Limne Foundation have sealed a strategic alliance for the restoration, conservation and improvement of several sections of the Tramusser Ravine, a vital river ecosystem that crosses the municipalities of Picassent and Benifaió. This project was born with the aim of revitalizing a natural space that faces challenges such as the presence of invasive exotic species and the management of urban runoff.
The Tramusser Ravine, which receives contributions from the Barranc dels Huit Ulls and urbanized areas, has sections channeled in its urban passage to prevent flooding, while in rural areas it suffers degradation caused by invasive species. Faced with this reality, the conservation and restoration project seeks a holistic approach to its recovery.
The main actions of the project include the recovery of native species, the cleaning of waste on the banks to improve water quality and the promotion of shared stewardship of the Tramusser Ravine. The latter will be achieved through environmental education and volunteering programs, seeking to actively involve citizens in the care of their environment. The aim is to strengthen the resilience of riparian formations and their associated biodiversity through monitoring, conservation and restoration of the ecosystem.
At Roquette, we firmly believe in the strength of collaborating with local experts so that they can continue to carry out their work and thus make possible initiatives that have a positive impact on the planet. The collaboration with Limne allows us to preserve an important river space in our municipality and that has some conservation problems. This initiative responds to our commitment to caring for the planet and protecting its water, as well as our commitment to contribute to a more sustainable planet.
– Fernando Escandell, Environmental Manager at Roquette in Benifaió
Committed to the local community
The project will begin with a phase of information and active listening to citizens. Recreational days will be organized to study the state of the waters and monitor biodiversity. Through social cartography, a participatory methodology, the perceptions, knowledge and experiences of the inhabitants about their territory will be collected. This tool will allow a deep understanding of the relationships between social actors and their environment, making it easier for project promoters to align their actions with the expectations of the community.
The collaboration with Roquette will help us to achieve a large part of our objectives and we will be able to delve into the conservation of one of the most punished and unknown habitats by the public: the Mediterranean ravines.
– Sales Tomàs, Director of the Limne Foundation
Aligned with the European Green Deal and the EU Biodiversity Strategy (EUBS2030), Roquette and Limne will work together on the restoration of the Tramusser Ravine to halt habitat degradation and promote the protection of its endangered species. This effort, essential for biodiversity conservation and flood management, also follows the guidelines and criteria for ecological restoration outlined in Spain’s National Strategy for Green Infrastructure, Connectivity, and Ecological Restoration.
This agreement between Roquette and the Limne Foundation can be renewed annually and represents a significant step towards the recovery and appreciation of Mediterranean ravines, promoting sustainability and citizen participation in the management of their natural resources.
