image mis en avant

STABILYS® BA 25 by Roquette is a starch-based solution that enables the total removal of fluoropolymers while guaranteeing the same level of grease barrier. It’s efficient on various base materials and improves flexibility to resist folding and creasing. Discover how it’s breaking free from harmful pollutants to provide an eco-friendly and safe solution for paper and board packaging.

Macroplastics, single-use plastics and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances

The European Commission, addressing the environmental crisis caused by single-use plastics, which constitute half of all plastic use and marine litter, has initiated a global task group to promote sustainable alternatives and enhance plastic’s economic lifespan, in line with circular economy principles. A major concern is the widespread use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in production, known for their durability and negative environmental and health impacts, as they are not easily degradable and contaminate water and soil.

Introducing a sustainable alternative with STABILYS® BA 25 modifie starch

Roquette has developed STABILYS® BA 25, a modified starch solution, to support the paper and board industry’s shift towards sustainable packaging. This product serves as an alternative to PFAS and plastic layers in packaging, offering similar grease resistance while being biodegradable and compliant with food safety regulations. STABILYS® BA 25 ensures the elimination of hazardous chemicals and offers a more environmentally friendly packaging option without compromising functionality. It meets international food contact standards, including FDA and BfR, and is also kosher and halal certified.

With STABILYS® BA 25, Roquette is contributing to the reduction of plastic waste and providing a safer, sustainable packaging option that supports the transition to a circular economy in Europe.
